1.Enable HTTPS (Secure Connection)

Always use HTTPS connection, that means all the data submitted from your computer to the Facebook server is completely encrypted with no loopholes. To enable HTTPS

  • Head over to FB Account Settings page
  • Click on Security tab in left side
  • In Secure Browsing check Browse Facebook on a secure connection (https) when possible(see screenshot)

2.Enable Login Notification

This FB feature will notify when someone enters your account from a new location, you will  receive Email and SMS notifications about the suspicious activity. To enable this feature, go to

  • Head to Account Settings.
  • Click on Security tab in left side.
  • Click on Login Notifications and check the box.

3.Don’t click suspicious links

There are lots of phishing attacks in Facebook like “Verify your FB account” Don’t click on such links  even if they come from a friend. If one of your friends clicks on spam by accident, that link might be sent to all of their Facebook friends. Remember to never re-enter your Facebook password or download something while you are logged in. If you accidentally click on any such links change your password.

4.Never click “Keep me logged in” when you are in public computers

Keep me logged in feature enables one time login, that means you don’t need to Login next time if you do not log out from Facebook and just close the browser, so next time when you open Facebook you will be directly logged in to your account.

5.Use Unique and strong password

If your password is simple and weak it can be easily hijacked using Brute force and hit & trial method. So cleverly use combinations of at least six letters, numbers and punctuation marks and change your password often. Don’t share your account credentials with others.

6.Avoid spam applications

Sometimes you got notifications from your friends like “Verify your Facebook account” or “Official message by Zuckerberg” and so on don’t approve such applications, they are spam. Frequently check allowed applications to access your data and disable those which you are not using.

7.Add your mobile number

8.Always check address bar While Sign In

Sometimes hackers will set up a fake page to look like a Facebook login page, also address looks similar to Facebook.com like Faceboook.com, hoping to get you to enter your email address and password. Make sure you check the page’s URL in address bar before you enter your login information.

9.Use latest version of browser

All major browsers has inbuilt security protection, like warning you if you navigate to a suspected phishing site. So always update your browser once new update is available.

10.Logout from Facebook

Most people after using  Facebook, they just close the web browser and walk away. Thats not a good practise. Always Logout after using Facebook.
